Help with a non registered mag

Last year I (somewhat accidentally) acquired this s&w non registered magnum at a sheriff’s sale. I know very little about the gun besides it was shipped from the factory in June of 1940. The finish appears to be original but obviously compromised from the grind marks. I think it’s time to move it on down the road but I’m not sure how to price it. With only 1400 ever made they don’t come up for sale very often and when they do they are in considerably better shape than this one. What’s y’all’s thoughts?

They followed the registered magnums in production and are pre model numbers. They are identified as non registered mags or non registered magnums

Edit: the original registered magnums all came with a unique registration number and these that followed are the same guns but without the registration numbers. Hope that clears it up

I find it odd that they removed the Smith and Wesson crest off the left side of the firearm. I read elsewhere that Mr. Carroll would be a good person to get in touch with about value.

I wonder if it was different between the registered and unregistered magnums? This RM shows to have that, but then I dont know whats going on in the other side.

But then in this collection of RM's some do and some dont. Crappy picture, but you can kinda tell.

But this guy has nothing on left side, with large crest on the right.
