Most every solution to this problem I hear revolves somehow around “hardening the school” or a lot of spending in general. Most schools have a couple hundred students. That should equate into a couple of hundred adults who care for them. Why not offer to let qualified folks from that pool pull security on a volunteer basis. Tell me they don’t have skin in that game. Give one a shotty the other some flavor of rifle. Both a backup. Simple ROE, bad guy shows up with evil intent they are indemnified. This could be implemented as fast as the cost is low. Expand it to grandparents and I could see this done in shifts. The secondary positives could be huge. Imagine the benefits to both the kids as well as the adults. The overall health of the community could be improved. Why would not a version of this work to help solve this problem.
