I'm tellin ya right now, the first company that comes up with a clinic for piddly problems/checkups at a reasonable cash price will make a fortune. Letting people shop for their healthcare will go a long way towards reducing costs.

Well, it's all inter-related. People will budget much better if they know they ER will refuse them. But let's let them keep their money to give them incentive to WORK!

Frankly, I'd get rid of SSI, unemployment, the works.

Retirement ought to be covered by private contract--pension--or savings (the latter being a wiser option, as it's always best to control your own destiny.)

As for unemployment and disability, there's a free-market solution there too: private unemployment insurance. Poke around--there are some very good plans on the market, and much more cost-effective than the government's purchase-by-force option.

I'll second the opinion that if you're too irresponsible to have a backup plan in case of trouble, you've no right to demand a payout from me to cover yourself.
