Well I've heard hunters talking about how if a place doesn't have "no hunting" signs posted that they could just go on that land and hunt as they choose. I also see folks lined up in ditches at the first day of dove season shooting over land that they don't own and sending their dogs in to retrieve the birds. That dove thing really ticks me off when I see it(I'm assuming most don't even try to get permission)

Back in the day that was true with caveats.
If it had no signs, no fence, or the fence was in disrepair and there was no agriculture going on or running machinery on the place you could hunt it without permission of the landowner, but had to leave if asked.
Those days are long over.
