Yep, Electrolytics that we used in some of our DC drives, and induction anealers were the size of 16 oz veggi cans. They would go off like a hand grenade untill they started putting pressure relief valves in them.

Back in my military days in Communications, our Tropo scatter Microwave transmitters had caps the size of 55 gallon drums. We discharged them with fiberglass poles that had a copper conductor connected to ground that was 10' long.
Get about a foot away from the terminals, and it would arc out to the ground rod. Sounded like a rifle shot going off, and the flash required a hood similar to a welding hood for eye protection.
