IIRC, way back approx 13 years ago, someone on here also mentioned having your first two fires to be birdshot, in case you needed a deterrent before the whammy shells were fired. Would love to hear some input on that, since it may or may not be something I still do...
At hallway distances, a load of #4 birdshot is very similar to a solid projectile. Not much spread but a whole lot of damage.
I'd offer to tell those that want to differ to take a sheet of newspaper out and shoot it at 15'. Even with a cylinder choke and spreader wads.
You can let us know I'm right after your done.

A shotgun is a devastating weapon. At 15' You could muss a bad guy's hair with #6

I have a buddy that was shot at 30 some yds with #7.5 by another quail hunter and it wasn't Dick Cheney.
He carries a couple of shot in his heart muscle that is still there 40 years later as it was safer to leave it there vs remove it in that day.
So, I agree.

Yeah, You mention Cheney and that poor lawyer, Harry.
We were all wondering who could have imagined that a shotgun blast to the head neck and chest could have injured a man so seriously?
It was so weird. Harry just snuck up on the vp and he was basically responsible.
Everybody gets peppered with a little #7 1/2 every now and then.

That's why everyone that hunted upland with me wore hunter orange to prevent that.
Sadly, my upland dog had to be put down last year, so the quail/pheasant will just be me walking around kicking bushes like in the old days.

Without a dog, its harder for an old man to find what he knocks down
Yep, one shot, one bird and you never take your eye off where it falls while walking up to it. No fancy doubles, etc. just like the old days when a kid without a dog.
Amazing how it all runs in a circle.
