You might wonder why the need for all of the essential oils and herbs for homemade health concoctions. Well, some people just like organic, non-processed meds, and then some may choose to get the most common ingredients and keep on hand for when “store bought” items are not available. There's nothing like being ill and having no way to get relief! Mountain Rose Herbs is one great site among many. I've used this site so I'm familiar and have no problems as of yet. If you have any reservations regarding whether or not to take some of the ingred., be sure and ask your Dr. (show him the recipe). Many might not “like” herbal meds but are they going to be around to treat you when things REALLY get rough? Who knows? Do your homework and read up on the ingred. yourself (that's part of being a Prepper). COLD FLU TEA-----(Recipe from Mountain Rose Herb site) The advantage to drinking hot tea is that the liquid thins congestion and flushes out toxins. Drinking 2-3 cups of the following tea, nice and hot, will make you sweat and lower fever. ½ tsp. Yarrow Flowers (Achillea Millafollium) ½ tsp. Elder Flowers (Sambruous Canadensis) ½ tsp. Peppermint Leaves ½ tsp. Echinacea Root ½ tsp. Schisandra Berries 3 Cups Boiling Water Combine herbs in teapot and pour boiling water over them. Steep for at least 20 minutes. Strain and drink throughout day. You can make a double batch and keep in the refrigerator, just warm up before drinking more. SORE THROAT GARGLE WITH SAGE----(Recipe from Mountain Rose Herb site) The sage used in this gargle (Salvia Officinalis) is used in classic gargle, but other herbs such as Marjoram, Thyme, or Hyssop can be used instead. 1 Cup Boiling Water 2 tsp. Fresh or dried Sage Leaves ¼ ounce salt Pour boiling water over sage, cover and steep for 20 minutes. Strain and add salt. Cool completely Gargle as needed. May be stored in refrigerator for a couple of days. HERBAL COUGH SYRUP---(Because of Honey, Pepper & Vinegar DO NOT GIVE TO YOUNG CHILDREN) 2 TBSP Water 1 TBSP. Cider Vinegar 1 TBSP. Honey 1/4 tsp Ground Ginger 1/4 tsp.Cayenne Pepper ADULTS take 3 teaspoonsful at intervals as needed for cough. Honey can give Salmonella to young children and the vinegar and cayenne could be too harsh.
