I've decided that horses and mules aren't worth considering unless one is rich, a farmer or a rancher and owns such animals. Not practical for most modern American hunters anyway. Are ATV's (those 4 wheel things you sit on like a motorcycle with handlebars) widely permitted on lands open to the public for deer hunting? Is OK an ATV-friendly state? An ATV is a great idea for the deer hunt but only if the "Lords and Masters" controlling the deer hunting properties allow that sort of thing. How much money can one expect to pay for a GOOD second-hand ATV for hunting these days? $1,000?, $2,000?, $5,000? There are some new off-beat-China-brand ATV's that are under $2,500, but I question the quality and longevity of vehicles that cheap. Doesn't have to look pretty but just mechanically strong to haul the deer back to the truck. The only new ATV's I've seen sold in Lawton are the name brand ones like Polaris, Honda, Kawasaki, etc. that rival good used car prices. Anything costing $3K+ to go haul a dead deer out of the woods once every season or so is a bit rich for my blood. They have things on the market like these new Apollo Commanders but only down in Texas. Why don't Oklahoma hunters get new el-cheapo "deer" machines like these from local dealers? If I buy one in Texas, who is going to service it in Oklahoma?
