How in the heck did this happen?

With plans to go turkey hunting this evening after work, I threw all of my camo's and turkey gear in the truck. Got my Browning Citori upland O/U out of the safe this morning, and while sliding it into the case, I spotted a crack in the forearm about 6" long!:yikes2::crying:

I've had this gun since the early 90's and its not a safe queen. Its my field gun, but what in the heck would cause this after so many years??:crying:
Now I wonder if Browning can do anything?

Liquid gold furniture polish with lemon oil, lighty over entire gun, won't evaporate like many oils and will protect wood not weaken it, as oil does.

there is usually no need to turn on your golden rod in the winter because of low humidity.
better check your other guns
sounds like you overdried your safe.

I have actually heard that those golden rods will cause wood to crack in a safe, since they work by heating up the air to drive out the moisture. I have been using the desicant canisters you can get from Cabela's or BPS and they work pretty good. They are rated to keep your safe @ around 40% relative humidity.
