There is a danger in thinking the gun banners are idiots who can be defeated by logic and direct argument. They use emotion, false facts and their own "logic" to argue in favor of more gun control or an outright ban. The media, many celebrities and politicians are on their side. Second amendment advocates are a minority. We need to convince other gun owners and the general public that unrestricted gun ownership is the guarantee of our liberty and gives us the best ability to defend against criminals. If we can't do this we will lose. Unfortunately posting in OSA does little to convince the majority. The public just does not get the link between freedom and gun ownership and the ability to defend against criminals. You saw how a major news commentator ridiculed the head of Gun Owners of America, calling him an idiot. People get their opinions from such news commentators. Make no mistake about it - our rights are in real danger. Instead of thinking about buying an AR before the ban, we need to be active in expressing our opinions and convincing other gun owners to do the same. It is bigger than than our "selfish" right to buy the guns we want. It is about liberty in the broadest sense.
