It's not an engine question so much as it is a general valuation question. So, here we are.

Details:

74 Charger, rough, rough shape. Engine is there, title is clear but I'm gonna basically wind up with just a shell because it has set out in the weather for years. Is numbers matching. Guy wants to sell but is waffling on telling me a price. Guess he thinks I might fund his retirement which ain't gonna happen.

Fair values I found on line run between $5-6700. I'm really not interested in dickering with him but if I name a price he's gonna be horribly insulted. Lol

Help me out guys. What would you give for a shell and an engine block, knowing you were gonna wind up completely rebuilding it from the ground up?

Thanks!!

Long as he's not holding a gun when you make the offer, ya should be ok... :D

Lol, he's a snowflake. I'm more afraid of the hissy fit I'm gonna see than I am of getting shot. :grumble: I can barely stand to talk to the guy but I really kinda want this car. :lookaroun I'm not giving him $5 grand for it though. I'm not even sure what a fair offer is, it's in such rough shape. I kinda think he should pay me to take it off his hands and clean up his back yard.:rotflmao:

Ok, so I'm on the mark. I'd give him a running vehicle I paid $1500 for if he'd hand me the title and keys.

I'll keep ya posted. If you feel the earth shake you will know he had a meltdown. Lol

Thanks!! I appreciate the help.

$1000-1500 tops. 74 isn't really a desirable year that Charger. What motor is in it?

My Dad has a couple in those years if you wanna look at them. Sound about the same condition. Pretty sure he still has them...he has a bunch of stuff.

A 318, but he has a 440 on an engine stand in the garage that will come with the car.

Really?!?!? Hmmm. Let me talk to the old man when he gets back. I'd really rather buy from just about anybody than this fella at this point. I'll PM ya in a bit. Thanks!!

It's a buyer's market right now it seems. You can buy a nice car right now for cheaper than you can restore.

Unless you want the pride and frustration of the hobby of taking a turd and polishing it into a diamond.

I might get my GTO and my Model A done some day.
