I can’t even imagine the terror those folks went through in the seconds before meeting their maker, too terrifying to think about. I vaguely knew a couple as well, on their way back from Arkansas after burying the lady’s father of all times. They stuck in my mind because they had a farm, tons of land, and mostly all new farm equipment, a very well off family/life. Now keep in mind this is the story I was told by their son’s cousin/best friend, so overall from the concencess I’ve heard over the years, the basis of the story is true, since it’s secondhand, some of the details could be skewed. Anyway they had 1 boy who was 2 years out of HS, they left him everything. The boy went Jack bat crazy, drinking, drugs, exotic vacations, he could only see dollar signs, had nearly all the cash gone, and had started to sell off equipment, inside of 2 years. His uncle finally got ahold of him, got him in rehab, turned him around. Last I heard, about 6 months back or so, he settled down, married, a child, and he’s finally got the farm back to turning a profit. The profit only happened, because they had 2 big oil wells nearby and he started get royalties. I wish I could just have the cash he blew!
