Go back to purchase, if he/they gives you guff, either ask to speak to a manager with the above referenced “actual” law pulled up to show them, or if you don’t feel like dewing with it, go somewhere else. But also as said above, this is a perfect example of how innocent chit chat at the counter with clerks can cause you a headache.
