Had 9-10 Jeeps in my family since '92, most of them grands; still got a handful (but none of the new body style grands). When working they are such a great vehicle...best of all worlds...power, comfort, commuter, and off-road better than most (SRT-excluded). But they just break; especially after 5yrs old...lots of things need fixing; especially when they get over 100k...Dad had 3 of them that never gave him much trouble but his were all hwy miles; one '95 model Limited had 250k on it when he sold it and nothing but oil changes required! That's what made me think they were so reliable. But the ones I've owned have been love-hate...great vehicles, not near as reliable as Toyota. For Jeeps, I look at them like cats...nobody should own one unless they know all the caveats and are prepared to accept them. For a new one under warranty, no problem, let all the soccer moms drive them until 100k...but then watch out if you are not knowledgeable and technical about cars in general and haven't owned a Jeep before. If you want trouble-free after 5yrs, get the Toyota. It's a Jeep thang, you wouldn't understand.
