I get that people complain about the coverage and why Kobe gets so much for dribbling a ball while military, law enforcement and others don't get the news coverage they should or deserve. So, here are my thoughts and what the local Southern California coverage has been the last two days. I'm a fair-weather Lakers/NBA fan. When the Lakers are good I will watch a lot more. The last 10 years or so, I have not watched much NBA even when the Clippers were doing good, so, my point is, I don't really have a dog in this argument but will tell you what I see and what the news reports. Even many of the local and well known sports casters and writes around Socal will tell you that Kobe wasn't always the best teammate in the back half of his career , he had the issues with the rape allegations and some of the other "issues" we all know about throughout his career with the Lakers. This being said, what a lot of people across the country and the rest of the planet doesn't see is what he has done since his retirement. It is pretty incredible the person he has become since retirement and how he was with his kids and how involved he was. I would see his SUV around town a fair about for the size of celebrity he was. He would always attend the local soccer games his girls played in at the local elementary schools and would help coach and be just as involved as the rest of the parents on the sidelines. Acting like a normal dude. Stories of him going to work from 8am - 1pm then leaving every day to pick up his girls at school, take them home then, then back to work. He has his basketball academy which has been a blessing to many young kids, but I didn't hear much about it before this. My point is he became much like every other dad in the area. He didn't make the news much but when he did it was always in a positive light. The local news is also covering the seven others killed in the crash much more than what is seen on the national news. I think Kobe's reputation locally was much different than what the rest of the country knew since his retirement. Anyways. Just my $.02.
