If we're going to blame teen pregnancies on not teaching sex ed. how do we explain that even though English is taught some kids graduate who can't read?

Point remains that lack of sex ed. is neither the sole cause or remedy for the problem.

I do not see that they are not teaching sex ed, just not a dedicated course. To me it sounds like they are teaching it as part of other courses.

I had sex ed in my junior high time. The only thing I took out of it was males get hair on their hands if they masturbate. (a joke by the teacher)

Going into the Army, one of the first things they did in every duty station was to have a sex education class, and gave out locations to stay away from.

Of course, the main topic after the class was what was the location of said "off limits" was. :D

Yeah, I agree it needs to be taught, and it needs to be taught truthfully. Kids these days have viewed porn by the time they are 8 years old according to some sources with unfettered access to smart phones and computers.

Give them the information about STD's, and that's about all one can do anymore. They won't accept the information, as "it won't happen to me", but the effort was made.

I really think the school year, with limited instructional hours, is better off incorporating the topic in other areas. I ask because I don't know, is there any evidence that Sex-ed has resulted in a decrease in teen pregnancy or STD's? I'd guess not. Parental leadership is necessary to prevent or combat the damage done by teen pregnancy. The fact that people used to marry young is rooted not so much in desire, rather longevity, I think.

Parent's won't do squat. I'm betting that 99% of parents never said a word to their kids.

I'll tell you what I did with my sons. Just left a box of condoms in their room and never said another word about it. They knew. Neither fathered a child out of wedlock.

Just lucky? Maybe, but we will never know.

According to the op you're correct, and HIV prevention, which one would assume means condom use is being taught because it's mandatory. Kind of makes one ask what the real issue is.

No dedicated course to take up time so that the kids do not have time to learn American History, Social Studies, etc.
