We have the game target and enjoy it a lot. Racking back the slide every shot to reset the hammer is tiresome though.

I have one and a target that will register the hits. It is a great tool for first shot after draw from concealment.
It is almost worthless after that because you have to manually rack the slide for the follow-up shot.

Can't you just thumb cock the hammer?

If you thumb cock the hammer, won’t you have to roll the cylinder all the way around to get the chamber with the laser cartridge back under the hammer?
Or if you have a hammer on a semi-auto, I suppose you could thumb cock it. Either way it still requires manual manipulation and is not the same as firing live rounds. Only the first round allows you to “practice as normal”.

    Or use a DA/SA... :D

They've been around for a long time. I always wondered whether they would be perfectly aligned with the bore, since the beam is much smaller.

I use an Itarget Pro. Pulled the hammer back on a DA/SA or rack the slide, extractor does pull the cartridge

I have never handled an XD, but aren't they striker fired and therefor don't have a "hammer"?
