I was stationed there while going through basic... back then the strip bars were still full nude- no pasties... and the people running the bars were ruff as a dried out corn cob.. A lot of the bars were the kind you walked in and then backed out of... either with with a group of your military buddies or a hand in your pocket on a gun or knife. That was when a lot of the bad buys were carring straight razors or else a small metal package of double edged razor blades. They would keep a package in their pocket... and if they got in a fight... they would come out with the pack of blades, and slip one blade out the end of the pack about a 1/2"! You could be cut to pieces before you know what was going on. I remember going to the bus station one weekend to catch a bus home.. and some guy cornering me in the restroom trying real hard to sell me a brand new .38 spl revolver with the sales tag of $200+ still looped around the trigger guard for only $35. It had just been stolen from a pawn shop there in town. It was so hot it was burning his hands just holding it.
