Let's play a game (from 1963) #4 w/answer

There are 5 scenarios. I'll post 1 scenario each day in it's own thread. Some time between 24-48 hours later I will post the answer as provided by the article.

Read the scenario and then explain how it would be possible for this to happen.

I'm going to say the kero dunk didn't wash the salt out. Salt water and oil doesn't mix. The kerosene probably trapped it inside. Something rusted inside.

My guess is that the receiver is full of crap and something failed, just being submerged in cleaning solution doesn’t do much if you don’t drain it. If dirt got in there or the salt wasn’t flushed out, it can still be gummed up.

Operator error. Took it off safety accidentally or on purpose and didn't remember.
Why in the hell would you check a safety with a loaded firearm by pulling the trigger?

I do it with my revolvers all the time.

He reassembled the gun incorrectly and the automatic safety worked the opposite way than it was supposed to.
