So maybe it's time we start planning this thing again?

I think part of the plan was to get some of us who don't know shite from shinola about long range to come to Ponca so Dennis and some of the others can get us dialed in and learn some basics.

I think the Ponca range goes up to 300 yards.

My ultra long-range rifle is still under construction. I started out looking for an off-the-shelf 6.5CM or something and started talking to my gunsmith and eventually ended up shelling out for an ultra-custom top of the line ridiculosity that cost more than any vehicle I owned until I was 35. :(

It'll be nice. But damn... I'm a sucker.

Anyways, I've got an AR with a 24" Wilson bull barrel and a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x on it I can easily use to learn on. I'm still waiting on my Arken scope that got sidelined with the China virus BS.

    Anyways, what say you, OKS?

<edit> I can say, I don't want to be out there in the super heat, so hopefully in May and June we can do some of these.

I would be up for this. Would love to try hitting targets at 300 with just ironsights again. On my qualifying run I hit 2 of my 3 @ 300, but that was 20+ years ago. Just need a 25 yd target to dial in on first.

I wouldn't even be able to SEE a man-sized target at 300 with irons, I don't think. lol

Currently the Ponca Range is open for individuals but not groups. All competitions are on hold currently. Now would be the time to have it.
I’ll check to see when they think it might reopen.

I’m down to shoot. I assume they have some pistol lanes too. I’ve bought 2 pistols and a rifle this year and haven’t shot any of them.

I've been to Fouled Bore a few times in the past 2 months. I think it'd work out pretty well for us. There are basically 2 long ranges out there, that sort of 'cross' each other, and a shorter pistol range on the northwest part of the property.

The first shooting range has 2 covered shooting areas, but only 1 bench. Be prepared to bring a shooting table, or to shoot prone. There is also multiple other shooting platforms such as cars, large tires, etc. that they use for competitions. They have a 100 yard target for sighting in, then targets start around 300-400 (can't remember), and then go out in 50 yard increments out to about 1500, then there's a really far target (white truck and some steel) at about a mile.

The second long range goes from west to east. I've never shot on that range before, but from range #1, I can see an elevated shooting platform, and I'm sure there's other features out there. I've just never been out to that range. I spoke with the owner once and he said that that range is used more for competitions. There is plenty to steel to shoot that way, as well as a giant old station wagon with steel targets around it! Nothing really short distance on that range. I'm guessing all targets are least 500 yards and further.

There is also a pistol range with multiple steel targets. Shortest target from the shooting line is probably 20 yards, with assorted steel going out to about 50 yards.

The owner is Justin Watts - 405-933-6395. He is a very nice guy. Normal rates are $30 to shoot all day. I'm betting he'd be willing to make a deal if we brought a group. It might be worth calling him.

They just need some more benches. That's the one shortfall I see here. I'm not keen on shooting prone for long periods of time. I thought about building my own simple little shooting bench that is collapsible that I can take out there for future visits.

Here's a few other pics - it's hard to get perspective and see the targets, but the range out there really is fantastic.

Also, if we do go end up going to this range, be prepared to get a little dirt on your tires! Nothing is paved once you get off the county road.

Alrighty then; so we have two potential locations for a Long Range ENS. I suggest we let @dennishoddy do his checking and see what he can come up with and go from there. Question for those who have been to Fouled Bore: What about the EAT part? Some of us are a bit better at the eatin' part of an ENS after all, Chow time is an important thing to consider when planning one of these things

Fouled Bore is about 15 minutes south of Chickasha. There are a couple of pretty good spots there. Cotton Patch Cafe and Paw Paw's Hamburgers are pretty good. Jake's Rib has been around for decades and is a staple of that area. Bring an appetite though. Small portions do not exist. Seriously....google some pics of that place. One thing though, there are many restaurants (at least for now) that do not have their dining rooms open. As we get closer, we'll probably want to make sure that we'll be able to go inside.

Man that's almost 3 hours away from me. It would have to be a real planned thing for sure. I could maybe come down the night before.
