Ok everybody so got ahold of a socom last weekend. Was looking at the recipe book and was wondering if I should stick to the service rifle data or would I be safe using regular data? Ive had an m1 in the past but im still nit familiar with the gas oprod setup. I know overpressure on a garand is the death knell for the oprod but is the m1a the same?? The gas systems are a bit different just wondering if anyone knew the ins and outs

Use the service rifle data. The same is true for M1A as the garand but not as bad. The 308 typically uses a faster powder anyway. I shoot H3895 in mine most of the time. There are folks out there that say you can use slower powder but I don't risk it. 100FPS with slower powder isn't worth me damaging my M1. Just my tc.

41.5 grains of IMR 4895 behind a 168 BTHP was the king of 600 yard matches in M14s and M1As for a long time. Mine loved it, and for hunting and other activities you can use 165s with that data, or 168's of a few different flavors.
