Most folks don't realize how large hogs can get. I sold a boar that weighed 780 lbs once.

Got a lotta pigs from that guy, he just got too big for the sows. :D
I had a HS sow that weighed 710 when sold. But, hogs don't get this big eating roots and berries, this 820 lb'r had some help, and probably wasn't all that wild to begin with.

My buddy recently shot a 500 lb hog in Logan county and I thought that was big!! geeeezzz
500lb is big, really big. Capped a 450 last year on the river. Used the hydraulic hay spikes on my truck to lift it up and move it out of the sand. Too smelly to eat, so the dogs has meat for weeks.

Lots of slaughter houses use a .22 (hammer? don't remember the name) to kill animals. Before that, they used poleaxes. My Dad used to kill steers with .22 shorts when they did their own butchering.
