There is a "stolen valor" law (I think) that prohibits the wearing of medals one did not earn. Some of these sick f***s go all the way. The funniest one I ever saw was a guy who was about 15 years too young to have been in the Viet Nam war. He was claiming whatever PTSD was called then. He was hospitalized in a state mental facility, and had put together a fairly credible story. I never did learn if he was delusional or just making it all up for fun or three hots and a cot. I have talked with a lot of veterans in my lifetime. A few from WW I, one from the attempt to catch Pancho Villa, a bunch from WW II and Korea, and many many from Viet Nam. For some reason, people often share things with me that they have kept inside for a long time. I was very close to a real seal who later worked for a different government agency. It took three years for him to open up on a limited basis. I have never repeated any of the things he told me, out of respect for his privacy. I am very proud that I was able to place about 200 returning Viet Nam vets in excellent careers when others, and industry included, were spitting on them in one way or another.
