Sounds like good times 458 SOCOM My first casting was with my dad .Mean mean sucker. Brain worked backwards sometimes.. I was about 12 casting some 5 OZ sinkers in an aluminum mold.. I held the mold and he poured in the lead from a pot he cooked on the kitchen stove. Well first try the lead dripped onto moms carpeted kitchen floor..(carpet in the kitchen) Now the mold did not fill out...and he needs to protect the floor.. So 5 gallon bucket of water in the kitchen floor with 4 gallons in it...He cooled the mold off thinking this would allow the mold to fill out..COOLED it by running it under the kitchen faucet... Now dad told me no matter what do not drop the mold...I had to hold this aluminum mold with water all over it and in it over the 5 gallon bucket of water while he poured lead into the mold. YEP!!! KABOOM!!!!!! all that lead came out of the mold and adhered to my face and arm and my Dukes of hazzard shirt. I closed my eyes and did not flinch holding that mold steady while the hot lead ate my skin off.... Dad hollered drop the mold and i did and splashed that water onto my face to cool the lead... Walked to the bathroom and peeled the lead off myself.. Come to think of it ..no one followed me...and no one applied any ointment.. That was the way it was in my home...sunday school teacher mom and drunk dad.. Not many fond memories... But i did learn a lot... :)
