I currently own a Remington R1S and I like the feel and looks of a 5" plain Jane GI M1911 45 ACP plus I seem to shoot one considerably better than the Glock 21-4 that I recently sold here but I'll have to admit that I like the higher magazine capacity of the Glock better than the M1911 when going to the range (Glock = 13, M1911 = 7).

I know that I could just purchase and load up a whole bunch of 7 round magazines prior to going to the range or even purchase a 'X' round extended magazine or two but I don't like the way they look hanging out the bottom of the mag well.

If you've not yet figured it out I'm kinda looking to add another 45 ACP to my handgun inventory :).

Without having to second mortgage the house are there any mfgs currently offering a extra capacity (double stack) 45 ACP that otherwise stays pretty much true to the original M1911 design / look ?

I also like the three dot sights that came on the R1S compared to the small standard M1911 GI sights.

Interesting thought...I think once you introduce the double stack concept into a 1911, most manufacturers will go the route of more tactical than USGI type. I guess you could always get one like a Rock Island and swap down to make it more traditional.

several builders are making 2011's (as they call them), i don't keep track of them cause i have zero interest in double stack 1911 models. but it stands to reason a double stack mag will require a wider frame and slide, so in profile they might look 1911ish, in practical terms they are not even close. and certainly not Mil-Spec mentioned in the title

if higher load count is that important consider a 40 cal 1911, or perhaps a 10mm. the 10 is more expensive shooting, the 40 cal is priced about the same as 45ACP. the 165gr 40 cal is a hammer

Don’t know if they still make them, but Para Ordnance makes a 1911 platform 45ACP with 14 round capacity.

I don’t know the specific model. One of the guys I used to work with had one. He said he liked it. The grip felt about the same as a Glock 21 to me.

You may be surprised. Everything is surprisingly consistent between 2011sandsingle stacks. Other than the mag opening slide stop and mag.
