I had one (blue, not S/S). Fun guns to shoot, and reliable with Ruger mags. They appeal to some of us because they are very un-ARish.
Although it uses the same ammo, has the same rate of fire, and can uses magazines with the same capacity as an AR-15, it's not on the most recent "list"of proposed weapons to be banned.
That was one of my thoughts as well. Odd, isn't it?
I'll check with my LGS tomorrow and at least see what he can do for me, price-wise. Then mull it over and probably pick one up.
That's one reason. Plus it looks so cool.
I like mini-14's a lot, but they are cost prohibitive. They run as much as a fairly decent AR. The AR is a much more practical and accurate platform. When I win the lottery I'll have several mini's, but as long as I can only afford one rifle at a time, the AR will be that rifle.
Banning a weapon because of its looks, not its capability is just ignorant, or to be kind "uninformed"
Yeah some kind of mystical force in the universe that only Ruger magazines function well in Minis'. No body seems to be able to make one that works flawlessly yet. And Ruger seems to know that and charge a pretty penny for them.

Both rifles did the same. We assumed it was because the barrel is not free floated.

The more modern ones are more accurate than their predecessors. Just get enough magazines to cover yourself.
