1 of the small hurdles has been cleared, kind of.
Mounted the backup Iron sights.
Used magpul pros the elevation is of by .05 between the front and rear mounting rails. But I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

I personally would go for the Ruger American ranch platform. The 762x39 meets the midrange caliber requirement, it’s light, accurate, and takes box mags. You can buy a scout rail with iron sights built on to it for the rifle, and then mount a scout scope. I think skinner makes the scout rail for it. Mine is just wearing a primary arms LVPO with the x39/300bo bdc reticule at the moment.
One of the Shooting Illustrated writers made one from a Ruger American. He wrote an article on it. He was who talked Ruger into making the Ruger Scout Rifle.

Scout rifles are old school, so here's an old school approach: an FR-8 Spanish Mauser in an aftermarket stock.
