There are several "smart phone" security systems that actually work great. So you can monitor yourself. You get smart phone notifications with a prompt to call 911 if it is tripped. Then you can access the cameras. Then some like the iris at lowes has optional monitoring with no contract so if you are out of the country or in the woods you can turn it on when you need it. My MIL in Edmond (technically, North OKC) had her monitored alarm go off at 2:00 am. Being alone in the house she wanted police to come check it out. It was 18 minutes from call to door, which in that situation seemed like an hour. The officer apologized that it took so long and said he was at NWE and Merridian when he was notified. She is 3 blocks north of quail springs. It just seems crazy to me that he was the closest available officer. Then again, I have no clue how assignments work. Fortunately, my nephew didn't shut the back door all the way when he was playing earlier and the wind blew it open, so no real emergency. Opened our eyes to the process.
