This happened quite a few years ago, before cell phones. I was on my way to work at the Aeronautical Center and stopped to help a lady. Her car broke down, it was parked off the road and she needed a ride to work at the Aeronautical Center. I did give her a ride. Some months later I was on my way to work and my axle broke. A car pulled up in back of me and guess what, it was the lady that I had given a ride to. Both times it was early in the morning and still dark. Sometimes things go around and come back.

I did too and was chastised by a trooper on the turnpike. I was helping a woman that did not have a cell phone. Mr. trooper was pissed! I have no idea why unless I cut into his 10-7 time. Come to think of it, he arrived about an hour after I called for assistance. All I was doing was maintaining a male presence at the scene. She stayed in her car and I stayed in mine.

I still stop if it's not a guy. I know it's not always safe but a lot of these white trash, single mom types with three kids in the car didn't have a dad around to teach them how to change a tire and may not have anyone to call. It takes me 10 minutes to change a tire, restores their faith in humanity, and makes me feel good. I also get to cut up with their kids to show them what good guys look like. Maybe they change a tire for someone in the future.

If it's a guy he can change it himself or call a service. I don't need a tire iron to the head for the measly $20 in my wallet.

Road service is free with most car insurances, cell phone services, OnStar and many other services. As a general rule I won't stop. There is one circumstance in which I'll stop but it has to present with a specific Sign. I've been known to use OnStar to send assistance many times.

More importantly, how the heck can one only spend 80 bucks a week on groceries like someone was saying earlier? Short of ramen, buying beans and rice in bulk. Pretty sure I spent more than that as a broke college kid.

I'm single and buy food that I actually cook,,,
I don't buy processed "frozen meals" or grocery store "fast food".

Except for those rotisserie chickens they sell at Wal Mart,,,
I swear they put something addictive in the chicken.

But even they will give me two full meals,,,
Sometimes three.

I grocery shop once a week and spend approximately $55 to $65 a week,,,
I have a "bench stock" of food in my larder,,,
And only buy what I use in a week,,,
I just replenish the larder.

I eat well my friend.

I do meal prep though,,,
One day a week (usually the day after I shop),,,
I prepare 6 to 8 meals and save them in segmented Tupperware containers.

Preparing the weeks meals only takes me about one and a half to two hours,,,
That's only one DVD or Netflix movieplaying in the background.

It's usually a weeks worth of meals,,,
They usually includes a chicken breast,,,
Or a 1" thick slice of a nice Pork Sirloin Roast,,,
With a half a can of two canned veggies in each container.

On that day my George Foreman grill gets a workout.

After I got a real job and quit eating like a college kid,,,
My cholesterol numbers dropped considerably,,,
And my Type 2 diabetes is well controlled.

If you have a family I can see how this would be much more difficult,,,
But if you live alone like I do,,,
It's easy as pie.
