I kind of figure I punctured a hydraulic line, but I really don’t know. Thankfully, it’s insured.
Black smoke coming out from under the hood sounds more like a ruptured diesel line, maybe one of the flex lines between the hard line and the injectors. I've seen a few ruptured hydraulic lines on tractors (and lemme tell you what, they can spray a long way), but I've never seen one catch fire, so I couldn't tell you for sure what that smoke would look like. Either way, it's no bueno.

Here, but occasionally There.
I did a prescribed burn yesterday, and I started out this morning pushing up and piling tamaracks that didn’t burn. I had been working about 4 hours when the tractor started billowing black smoke from under the hood, so I grabbed my little dog and bailed out. We got about 50 yards away before something blew up.

Something blew up? Was it a diesel tractor or gasoline?
