So, a buddy of mine asked me a question to which I don’t have an answer, but I know some folks that might. He recently got a 300 Win Mag and said it beat him up when he was sighting it in. He asked what muzzle device he should get. This is an elk rifle. Any input from y’all fellas?

You need about 0.70” diameter barrel at the muzzle to have it threaded for a muzzle brake or suppressor. If you don’t have that and want to run a brake you’ll need to look for a clamp on kind. Either that or shoot the 300WM till it no longer bothers him

He needs a suppressor with a compensator at the end like a Silencerco Harvester.
It makes my 6.7 lb 30-06 have the recoil of a .223 and it's not ear drum breaking loud. It is rated for the .300 win mag.

He’ll want something like a compensator that throws the gas up and rearward. Brakes just throw gas to each side generally. Both will be loud AF, especially in the non firing ear. Another solution is a combo like a Surefire SOCOM or LaRue Tranquilo or something. They are loud too. But they all reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip, some more that others. I don’t recommend brands here, the two above are just examples.
