I decided to spend some birthday cash, that had been burning a whole in my pocket, on some sort of vintage Mossberg rifle. It's just the kick I'm on right now. This one is my third and the oldest one I own. It's a model 35 single shot bolt action, made sometime from 1935 to 1937. Mossberg's first take on a target rifle. I found it on Armlist and the shop was willing to sell and ship to a C&R holder, like all shops should. Sometimes you run across people that won't.

Anyway, I think it's in pretty good shape and can't wait to get it out to the range. It came with all of the original sights, swivels, etc. The rear peep sight aperture is adjustable...you just rotate it and the size of the hole changes. I thing there are 4 sizes. Although present, the front sight is buggered up and needs to be replaced. I have another one on the way. And there's a small blemish on the right side of the pistol grip. Do you think a couple coats of Tru-Oil will blend that in? Other than those two items, I don't really see any other issues...which is nice for an 80 year old gun.

Nice catch my friend,,,
I'm a fan of single-shots and Mossbergs in general.

I own two older Mossies and they are fine performers.

If you ever get tired of owning that one,,,
Shoot me an e-mail and we'll talk.

Thanks fellas.

I test fired this one a few times in the back yard and quickly found it had an ejection issue. After further inspection, I found the ejector wasn't making solid contact with the back of the shell.

From what I could tell, the ejector looked bent. Not sure how that happens.

With the vise and few taps from a small hammer fixed it right up.

Yeah, probably. I'm wishing I had taken the shop owner up on his offer to test firing it. He may have reduced the price more. Oh well. It was easy.

Replacement front sight is on now.

I've got another Mossberg project on the way. This time, it's a Model 151K barreled action. I bought it to go along with a Model 151K stock (including all of the guts) that I had sitting in the closet. The only parts I should need to make it complete are the bolt, breach plug and some sights. But those aren;t always cheap and easy. And it looks like I'll be attempting my first barrel re-crown.

It'll go in this...

The barreled action showed up today. Looks to be in good shape. Barrel is shiny and bright. Action needs a good cleaning. I can't seem to get a breach plug to screw all the way in. It looks like the threads might be caked up with carbon. I'll probably take a shotgun bore brush and some solvent to the action. Maybe that'll help.

The front sight from Havlins fit well.
