We found about 6-7 of these under the eaves of our house. Guess what they are.

any idea what the caterpillars ate before pupating?

one of the most amazing critters out there...they migrate from central and south America to the northern latitudes and back again....it takes 4 generations to complete the circle....the route is, somehow, in their genetic make up....

Beware! It was left by the blood moon. It's a pod that will shoot spiders or snakes at you when you walk by.

Or, maybe it's one of the body snatcher pods.

not to mention they transform from a caterpillar into a butterfly... that's not an easy thing to do. I've heard that some of the nervous tissue that makes up their brain stays intact during the transformation. Therefore the butterfly can remember what the caterpillar experienced (like...a good host plant)..
