I find bolt guns to be more relaxing to shoot when you just want a relaxing day on the range.
As for the 10/22 specifically; I have one and it rarely gets shot. I just don't like the feel of it. I much prefer my Winchester Wildcat, a Marlin M60 or my old Savages. Even my Mossberg 702 is more comfortable to me. Just my preference, but I don't care for the stock, or the action on it. I pretty much keep it just to remind me, when I get the itch, of why I shouldn't buy anther one....

Don't get me wrong. The 10/22 is a great rifle and I've never had any issue with it. I just don't like it.
So for me the situation where I'd pick bolt-action over a 10/22 is "all of them".

I bought a Brand new synthetic 10/22 Ruger I think it was a couple years ago.
On sale at Atwoods in Norman.

I shot it side by side against my Squires Bingham 16.
And a 22 mag rifle I had and the Squires was more accurate than both and no fail to feed.
I tried a few different types of 22 ammo and that Ruger just angered me with jams and bad accuracy.

I read I needed to get a bunch down the pipe so the gun wears in.
A 22 LR is going to create wear on a rifle and make it better !!!!
I do not need that rifle.
I traded it off and told the gent that it was not accurate enough for me.

Old Model 60 will run circles around it in my opinion.
But if you do not care about accuracy and want to buy aftermarket things to make that Ruger better I say go for it.

I read about a few mods you can do to them to make them more accurate.
Mine was not good enough to hit squirrel heads at 50 yards.
You may get a few of them but not all you put the bead on.
I used the same scope on all rifles tested.
Lot of scope swapping. Nikon scope was used.

I am sure some have had great luck with their Ruger 10/22 or there is no way they would be so popular.
Unless everyone is brain washed..That could be it.
Or maybe I just have the worst luck with that brand.

One main reason I prefer a bolt over a semi is I can shoot and immediately following that I have a “very safe” firearm if I do nothing more to the firearm. Most of my shooting is done at critters. There are definitely pros to a semi but I’m just pointing out what fits my shooting. When I use a semi then I must be sure to flip the safety between shots. I’m going to be driving until I find another target. Say I’m done for the day then I’m probably going to drop the mag, empty the chamber, put the ejected round in the mag, close the bolt and re-insert the mag before leaving the rifle stored before the next day. With a bolt action I just load when a target presents itself most of the time. Then take the shot and don’t worry with the state of the firearm until next time. If a guy is just shooting and not dealing with other distractions of the world then he probably doesn’t see it like I do.

Suppressed shooting... and I've had a half dozen 10/22s and each ran great. I've had 1 Ruger bolt action .22 (Precision, which is basically a Ruger American in a chassis) and it has constant extraction issues. I hate it.
Wow, I’m surprised to hear that! Mine has been absolutely trouble free. All it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch though.

It's soured me! Love my centerfire Americans but the Precision Rimfire is a turd for me. I got new extractor and clips that hold it from Ruger and sometimes it'll extract, sometimes it won't. Last time after cycling it several times and the round staying in, I got mad and put it away with one in the chamber...cycled it once a few weeks later and it came out how it should????
