Three children were killed in a shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday morning before police "engaged" the suspected attacker, leaving the suspect dead, local officials said.
"The shooter was engaged by MNPD and is dead," Metro Nashville police said on Twitter of the incident at The Covenant School.
Police did not specify exactly what led to the death or immediately release any details about the suspect.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesman John Howser, a confirmed that three students were prounounced dead on arrival.
"We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm we have multiple patients. Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time. This is an active scene," the Nashville fire department said earlier on Twitter.
The Covenant School, founded in 2001, is a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville with about 200 students, according to the school's website. The school serves preschool through 6th graders and held an active shooter training program in 2022, WTVF-TV reported
