I'm trying to help my sister find some decent health insurance for her and her daughter.

M sister is 34, her daughter 12. He husband passed away earlier this year so she is on her own now.

Her daughter has had some health issues in the past couple of years; some sort of bone infection.

She's been trying to find a decent insurance plan that is really widely accepted. They live in Stillwater and I think most of my nieces doctors are in OKC, and but she has seen specialists in Tulsa also.

Who's got a plan that covers the whole state?

I guess she doesn't want to buy through the exchange, because she feels that their coverage isn't good enough. Is there anything out there that is any more?

BCBS is about it as covering the whole state and especially if she ever needs to see someone out of state. If she lived in Tulsa, Community Care would work well.

FWIW, the coverage is the same or the products BCBS offers, or that anyone offers, is the same on or off the exchange. If she's not looking for any financial assistance then she should call BCBS direct.

The BCBS plans are crappy and few doctors take them in Oklahoma. United would be a better choice. Can they not get some Medicare assistance for the girl since her dad died?

This isn't true. BCBS has 90% of the doctors and hospitals in OK and 80% in the U.S.'s major hospitals. Their tiers of coverage on certain networks are confusing for sure, but nobody even comes close in coverage in Oklahoma in terms of contracting.

Last I checked, UHC wasn't offering individual ACA certified plans in OK but that may have changed. They are POS company, lobbied for the ACA only because they are the government's TPA on ACA plans. They are now pulling out of several markets because they are losing their arse.

Also, I believe medicare doesn't allow for children survivor benefits unless they have ESRD.

She doesn't want to be on SoonerCare. They have been on that in the past and it is really crappy service and not very many doctors apparently. They may have to go see a specialist in Louisiana apparently.

Soonercare is good for kids. Every pediatric specialist at OU and St Francis take it.
Soonercare is much much better than any plan on the marketplace.

I am referring to the BCBS preferred and advantage plans that are available on the marketplace which is all they will be able to get. imtegris, Norman, Chickasha, Duncan and many many other hospitals do not take those plans.

United has plans on the marketplace for Oklahoma. More doctors take it than the BCBS preferred and advantage. I am the only doctor in my specialty in southwestern Oklahoma and I do not take BCBS marketplace plans. I do take soonercare though!
