Buddy and I went out on the Arkansas river below Kaw Dam yesterday in his airboat to just cruise around and walk sandbars looking for arrowheads or artifacts.
Found one point. Appears to be Kay County chert because of the slight pink color (doesn’t show in the pic because of lighting) that occurs after heat treating the flint that is naturally grey in color.
Any amateur paleontologist on here to help identify the period in history when this was knapped?

Cool find
We actually found some bison tooth outer enamel that has been petrified. It’s fairly common fo find those in the river as the natives drove them into the river or over cliffs near the river and feeder creeks suppling it for thousands of years.
We found bison skulls several years ago in one of the feeder creeks after a flood. I posted pics of those.

That's a Table Rock point. They are from the Late Archaic period and date to around 1000 B.C. - 1800 B.C. (3000-3800 years old). You're right about it being made from Kay County chert. This type was named for examples recovered at the Table Rock Reservoir in Stone County, Missouri, in 1956, and they were originally known as "Bottle Neck" points. Although it could have been a atlatl dart point, it's most likely that it was used as a knife. Nice find, Dennis!

Thanks for the heads up! That’s two finds you’ve identified for me. 👍👍
