I remember a commercial for Oklahoma Highway Patrol. They had a scene of a hill and a highway and a small car doing dipsy doodles all over the road with clown music playing. The William Tell Overture
started and you see 10 OHP cars two abreast coming over the hill after the drunk.

Then a narrator says, "The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is Bullish on Drunk Drivers."

I went through the process for Fort Worth in 1978. I made the highest score on their test and was turned down because of my eyesight which at the time had to be 20/40 uncorrected. I couldn't even make 20/100. I had a captain come to me and readminister my test even giving me the benefit of the doubt he could only scrape up 20/70.

Also at that time, there were a lot of Dallas PD officers and Fort Worth officers swapping every year so they already had trained officers to pick from.
