I'm not saying it's the best way, but here's how I do it. Go to the manufacturer's website and "build" it exactly how I'd like to buy it. Then I figure out which (if any options) I'm willing to live without or accept if they're already on the car even though you don't want them. Then I go on Autotrader and try to build out the car as close as I can to ideal, search and sort price lowest to highest within driving range. For example, there are 5 Stinger GT2's within 100 miles of OKC that range from $46-47.3K asking price. You can use that to leverage your nearest dealer on OTD price. BUT, if you're willing to put more effort into it and expand that search to nationwide, you'll find new 25+ GT2's in the $41-44K range. Now you may or may not be able to get a local dealer to match those prices, but you're better informed when you approach them. If you're not getting a good deal you can walk away rather than feel like that's the best you can do. That's what I did last year when I bought my Colorado ZR2. Locally all I could get was $3,500 off MSRP. I ended up catching a $280 Southwest flight to Phoenix and drove home with exactly what I wanted for $8,250 off MSRP. Even factoring the flight, fuel and mileage depreciation, I was still almost $4K ahead for a weekend trip. Some people aren't willing to work that hard but to me, $4K is $4K! :)
