Sounds like that chief needs to go back to the fire academy. Electrical fires can be extinguished with dry chemical fire retardant. Granted, a larger amount than carried in a hand carried fire extinguisher, but the capability is there. We had pickups with bed mounted systems when I was in the AF. It’s messy and the chemicals we used were hazardous but it worked great.

I wonder if you buy a new electric car, do they give you a "guaranteed quote" for the cost of replacing the batteries what 5-7 years down the road? I can still buy most any part for my old 1956 Chevrolet if needed. I have some much newer devices which specialized batteries are no longer available. Humm.
