I have met 3 different folks at my house. Some came inside, but no matter I will not invite a member with 2 post inside my house or even to have my address. @bigred1 you and another who was a fairly new member but I had spoke to him at length and felt safe inviting him and he was golden. You all had my address and I wasnt worried about anything. All 3 deals went silk smooth and a little idle visiting took place and it was done in 5-10 minutes.
New guys have to earn their way in any aspect of life, period. Dont believe me, join a fraternity and find out.
As far as wanting a minimum post count requirement for the classifieds, myself and the and other mods are 100% in favor of it. Actually I've not encountered another member here who is not in favor of it. Just the owner.
.
For the most part everyone is too far away that have listings I would be interested in. Guess it helps me save money.
We can only suggest you deal with established members. I know new members have to start somewhere, but the classifieds isn't that "somewhere" imo. Lately newbs in the classifieds hasn't been as much of a problem as long established members feeling like they need to save everyone by commenting that the asking price is too high, buy it or move along. Let me say this again...........
If you want to buy the firearm, buy it, if you don't move along, you don't need to comment unless you're interested or have a legitimate question(s).........you don't need to save other OSA members from a price that may be too high, everyone of us is capable of doing our own research about pricing during this time. Same goes for ammo, buy it, ask a question if need be or move along. I'll also remind everyone that with every classified ad you create, you are capable of locking the thread so that others can only contact you by PM if that's what you desire.........should you leave the thread unlocked, you also have the ability to delete any unwanted post in your thread. Enjoy your evening folks!
I've mentioned before that I am against any arbitrary post count requirements because I've seen what happens when these rules are in place when I was on another gun forum; mdshooters.com.
Having a minimum post count requirement before members are allowed to post in the classifieds only cheapens the rest of the site. I'll explain.
When a new guy wants to post something for sale but must first have, say, 50 posts; he simply spends 10 minutes adding nonsense responses to existing conversations. "I agree" "nice gun" "that's funny". He does this 50 times to 50 different conversations.
That's all he has to do to become an "established" member. (That cracks me up, "Established". Maybe that should be one of the badges members can earn. Bring back the chicken lego!)
At the other gun site I used to be on, we knew when an item was about to be listed in the classifieds because a new member would be all over the site giving short opinions on every topic of discussion until he reached the magic 50. Then an item would be for sale.
He's not the only one trying to become an "established" member. There are others. These days there are many others. Right now the way we have it, the ones who have no interest in participating in online discussions are keeping themselves to the classifieds only. If there is a rule in place that forces members to have a minimum post count before posting in the classifieds; a rule that forces people to participate in discussions, it only takes 10 minutes for them to crap all over the rest of the site before they get what they want.
A way around this is to stipulate that they be substantial or contributory posts, and then require Mod/Admin approval.
