I'm gathering ideas for my next build. What is the "strongest" upper/lower receivers made? I've read all the forged/billet/etc. stuff, just curious if you had to find the strongest, which one you would choose.

VLTOR MUR uppers are beefy. What's the need for "strong" though? If just going with a .223/5.56 build, I'd just go BCM and forget about it, but then again I'm a BCM fanboy.

Something made from 7075 vs 6061.

From a strength vs weight efficiency perspective, forged beats billet (even if the billet was forged originally).

Unless for aesthetics or "new" functional (ie, side charging) reasons, I see no reason to go with a billet vs forged.

I don't know who makes the strongest, but a while back I saw where PSA now has billet uppers and lowers. I haven't heard anymore about them.

I built a wildcat AR with a VLTOR MUR upper sitting on top of a Blackrain lower. The MUR is a nice, solid piece of equipment that didn't break the bank. You can get more expensive milled uppers, but I think the MUR is just as good as any of them.

I have also built on Aero stuff and have been very pleased. I built an AR pistol and most recently an M5 (what they call their AR-10). I used an Aero LPK for the M5 and have to say that their factory trigger is pretty nice to come out of a LPK. I polished it lightly with Metalglo when installing it and I honestly think I'm going to leave it in rather than swap it for an aftermarket trigger.
