NFA type weapons ?

I was wondering what NFA type weapons there were that do not require the tax or to be registered .

I thought NFA guns were just that, guns that need to be registered and fall under NFA rules...

If they fall into any NFA category, then they require registration and tax. The only difference is the transfer tax on an AOW is $5 as opposed to the $200 tax for everything else.

There are certain firearms that are exempt from the nfa, pre ww2 pistols with original butt stocks come to mind. there are are many others.

That is true, but they are technically not NFA weapons, they fall more into the curios and relics category.

How would I know if a weapon is "borderline NFA " not needing the $200 tax or the registration? I guess I mean almost NFA but not being NFA. Hope that helps to clarifying my question.

It's not really borderline, It's a nfa weapon or not, just do your research.
