[18] If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker. [19] “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. [20] I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. [21] I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”</p><p></p><p>If Peter was the “pope” or head of the “universal”/Catholic Church there is no way Paul would have publicly rebuked Peter for his public sin. Another thing Paul did was rebuke different people because they followed men rather than just following the teaching of Christ. These people said they were of Peter or that they were of John or Paul. This is where the division in the church started to happen. People were choosing to follow certain apostles rather than to just follow Christ and his teachings. </p><p>1 Corinthians 1:10-14,16-17 NIV</p><p>[10] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. [12] What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas ”; still another, “I follow Christ.” [13] Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? [14] I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, [16] (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.)
