Glad everything turned out OK. I've been in your shoes. Only in my case, the guy wound up coming into the house. Positive things to take from this: From now on, when you get up at night and grab your gun first, your wife won't say "why are you taking that?". Time is now to instill in your family a bit of preparedness planning. Cell phones, safe rooms, positioning of family during the sweep. Had a similar situation many years back where I put my wife and girls in the bedroom. Instructed them to stay put in the room designated. I went and did the sweep. Coming back down the hall, a dark figure cut across the hallway to one of my daughter's rooms. Since I knew I had cleared those rooms and the hall, I wasn't terribly worried. Figured it was one of the girls. Bright flashlight. Loud voice. Freeze!! It was my oldest. "But Dad, I wanted to get something out of my room." After alot of screaming at them later on, I finally got thru their thick skulls why it was so important that they stay in the locked room and not be moving around the house while I am walking around with a loaded firearm. Also a good time to plan and practice how and if you will sweep your house if it happens again. Glad that all is well. Dave
