Perhaps a lot of this misunderstanding could be resolved by what you define as "pompous open carry"? Do you just consider any kind of open carry arrogant?

Absolutely not. I am strong support of open carry. I am headed to a meeting. Will define it later.

I am a strong believer in you you have your rights as long as it does not infringe on my rights. Business owners rights is the same as domain rights. I have the right to deny entry into my home to anyone.

So if a thuggish looking man wants to enter your home, would you let him?

Is your home open to the public for business?

My issue with private vs personal rights is that you cannot ask a flamboyantly gay couple to leave an establishment do to discrimination. So why can you basically say "We don't welcome your kind in here" to a person carrying? It is discrimination all the same.

If you are open to the public, so long as they are acting in compliance with the law, you should not be able to restrict their freedom of movement. If RKBA is a civil right then why are we treating it differently than any other civil right?

I agree--the business owner should have the right to ask anyone to leave for any reason. Hell, I think he should be able to say "I don't serve white men" and tell me to leave if he wants--just like it's my right to not patronize his business if he does.

Here's something to ask a business owner who asks you to leave when you're OC'ing: What if I were [Black|Hispanic|Indian|other minority that you aren't] rather than carrying; would you still ask me to leave? That's effectively what he's doing--asking someone who is behaving lawfully to leave based on appearances. You want them to think about OC, not feel.

Kudos on the way you handled yourself.

You took an educational, and non confrontational approach. In the end the manager decided he wanted to take the route that he thought was least likely to get him fired, and that he wasn't concerned with the actual legality of the situation.

If you like Arby's enough you can always try to find out who owns it (some are corporate stores, most are franchises) and talk to their ownership about amending their company policy to be in line with state and federal laws. It obviously sounds like the ownership hasn't invested any time in updating policies or training their staff, and they are just going to continue to offend customers and drive away business till their learn from their mistakes.

I don't completely agree with "Cue"... but I definitely liked one of his point's I feel he was trying to make. I'm greatful beyond words... to have a govenor(our first ever female governor no less) confidant enough in the citizens of Oklahoma to sign into law a bill that allows open carry. I also agree that maybe "easing" the citizens of Oklahoma into getting used to armed citizens standing in lines with them at the grocery store or at the fuel pump, restraunt etc. to be a necessary inconvience on our part. I wouldn't be surprised if 30 percent of the people of this state have no idea that there is an Open Carry law on the books.
I put myself in the same position at an Arby's with a OC on me and I see a completely different outcome. I see the manager being as stubborn as me. So when I refuse to leave or conceal I see the manager calling the cop's. Now I'm making a seen in front of my kid and all of the other patron's of the Arby's who may have already been uneasy with me to begin with. They start to think I'm a jerk and I shouldn't be carrying with a license anyways. The Police show up and ask me outside. They ask for my weapon and my permit. They spend several minutes on a full background check to come back on me. They hand me back my weapon and my license "while making a note of our little get together on my record". Then they ask the store manager what he'd like to do. The store manager replies he wants me to leave the premsis. So I end up leaving the establishment anyways... with my tail tucked between my legs. A new little side note of my encounter with the police in my "file". Not to mention the GLOATING satisfaction on the Arby's managers face as he makes his imaginary check mark in the air as another win for him. And of course the notion of the "bad taste" of Open Carry I've left in the mind's of the other patrons and any new bystanders who have happened by at this point. I'm so grateful to know there is a way an encounter like the one that occured can go rather smoothly.. I just know if I were to try something like that.. just how it would back fire on me...lol.
Friday the 15th of march was the first time since Nov 1st that I actually saw a fellow Open Carry guy with a holstered gun on his hip for all to see. Thats 4 and a half months to see my first. Not sure with so many permits out there .. why it's taken so long to see another OC. I have had a CC permit since the begining. I think I waited maybe 90 days.. just to let the lines to the gun classes shorten some before I applied. I've had past girlfriends, family members and friends all get their permits. None of them have ever carried in public. I myself, since I recieved my first CC permit have only carried in public once. I put a shoulder holster rig on and then a jacket and then a heavy coat. I buttoned up and went to the local convienent store for a soda. It was the only time in 18 years of being licensed that I've ever carried. Since Nov 1st, I now carry virtually every time I'm in public or leave the house. I think my biggest fear from carrying all of those years. Was my concern of someone who was not a "trained professional" seeing me in public and getting a glimpse of my weapon and reporting me for it. I was afraid I would get in trouble and possibly lose my license. All because I wasn't "properly" concealed. Now... I don't worry about it at all. I carry a gun in a holster on my belt which is fitted in such a way.. that most all of my T shirts cover it. Except when I reach up or when I go to my pockets to get some change. SO I guess I don't exactly Open Carry... but I now carry without fear of getting discovered. My father also carries now in the same manner. I can't say anything about past girlfriends that I talked into getting their licenses but I know my mother... who hadn't shot a gun maybe more than twice in her 61 years.... spent most of December and January training with a gun. Finally in February she has taken the course, passed the written with a 100 and is getting ready to carry concealed in her purse. I hope to see more of you out there in the future and hope more of Oklahoma get to see you. I wonder where you are all at... ?!?!?!

Exactly why I never applied for a permit until after the passage of OC.

"just becuz you can eat at Arby's, doesnt mean you should"
Fixed it for you.

And how crowded was it in there? That place is usually pretty vacant when I go there (typically in the evenings on a weekday, though). I'm just can't imagine keeping "it away from the other patrons" would require much effort!

Younggundavid, I think there may be more than 30% who have CCL in Oklahoma. I know for a fact that ALL of my fellow hospital emplyees have CCLs, or have taken the class, often in small groups together and are waiting for the paperwork to clear. That's how I ended up with mine, I was talked into going with two other employees. Open carry is an individual preference, and I selfishishly prefer to maintain the element of surprise, haha! The thing that prevented me for so long from getting my CCL is that I didn't want to end up on a computer as a gun owner if the country keeps sliding into socialism. But at this point I think the socialists will dominate in individual states - never in Oklahoma. I love Oklahoma, and I love OSA!

I certainly respect a business owner's (and their representative's) rights. If your business is not posted and you have already served me at the cash register, given me my food on a tray, and allowed me to sit down and start eating before asking me to disarm or leave, you are either going to give me money back or I'm finishing my meal.

I won't be run out like a second class citizen, with half eaten food in a sack.

Amen to this ^^^^^^
