So i have been submitting my deer for a few years to them, i know likely its not real accurate, but maybe it is.

So this year i was looking and most they have aged have been 3.5-5.5 or so none have been 2.5's, that seems strange...we shot a deer i expected to be a 2.5....maybe 3.5 and they aged at a 4.5... so what do you think, are they pretty accurate?

They can only age the jaw bones that are submitted. Most of your "if it is brown its down" hunters are probably not interested in submitting a jawbone to be aged.

I feel they are more accurate than the average person aging with a couple game cam pics on facebook.

I feel the jawbone aging is pretty accurate from 6 months of age to 4.5 years.

Do you have more pictures? With those 2 pictures I can't be 100% it is the same deer. I don't disagree with you about the deer in the game cam pic not being 4.5.

I am not sure on the format of how the biologist gets the submitted pics to age. If they have looked at a bunch and are punching in ages on a keyboard I could see where a typo could be made. I know we (hunters) can only see month it was harvested, age and confirmation number. Without seeing all the jawbone submitted it would be difficult to see if an error was made on others.

Email the jawbone pics and concern with age given to Dallas Barber <[email protected]> and see what he says.

I wish I'd taken a pic of a doe I killed last month - I bet she was some buck's great great great grandma. I'm no expert at aging deer, but for real, she was oooollld.
