Most people don't understand the allure and what fly fishing is about. It's not about the number or size of the fish you catch, it's about learning and using the techniques that one has at hand to catch them. Trout stacked like this pic will be extremely tough to catch. They aren't actively feeding, but waiting on food of opportunity to come from the pool in front of them. It's unbelievable how small of a fly it would take to match the midges they are likely waiting on. It becomes an obsession. Since taking it up three years ago, I've fished some of the most beautiful streams in the Rockies. I could care less if anything was caught. Just being there was the icing on the cake. The occasional trout is the bonus. Still have a ton to learn.
To kind of understand, the classic movie with Robert Redford called A River Runs Through It, puts a person in the shoes of one that is a dedicated fly fisherman. Good watch.
