Satanist group's split has Oklahoma City show in question
Civic Center says event has been canceled; Satanist says it will go on despite the group's breakup.

A Satanist group with plans for a public event at the Civic Center Music Hall has splintered, a founder said Wednesday.

A statement posted on the website of the Church of the IV Majesties said the church had been disbanded and an Oct. 21 gathering at the Civic Center — to include a "public satanic exorcism" — was no longer scheduled. The website advised people who had already purchased a $15 ticket to the event to send their ticket to a post office box and their money would be refunded.

Satanist group's split has Oklahoma City show in question "The Church of the IV Majesties has been dissolved, the show has been canceled," the website said.

However, James Hale, who said he is one of the church's three founders, told The Oklahoman on Wednesday that another Church of the IV Majesties' founder wrote the statement because he has been expelled from the church.

Hale said he searched online for the co-founder's address so he could provide a map to the man's home and discovered a website listing the man as a registered sex offender.

He said the group does not allow sex offenders.

The co-founder identified by Hale could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Hale said the man, who was the church webmaster, goes by two different names. He said when the man was told he could not be in the group anymore, he decided to try to dissolve it.

Wednesday, Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Jennifer Lindsey McClintock said the Civic Center was contacted by a Church of the IV Majesties member on Tuesday who said the event was canceled.

Hale said the co-founder did not have the right to cancel the event because Hale signed the city contract to lease the facility.

He said the church is reforming and still hopes to have the event at the Civic Center.

Hale said he plans to get other group members together to come up with a new name for the church and revised plans for the Oct. 21 event at the Civic Center. He said two church members are ready to sign on as officers of a new church. Hale said the other co-founder has the Church of the IV Majesties' bank records.

"If there's any way to pull it out, we will. At the very least, the exorcism is not canceled, it's postponed," Hale said.

The scheduled exorcism was meant to be a parody of the Catholic Church's rite of exorcism. Hale said his group doesn't allow sex offenders, but that the expelled member had been the sole person in charge of background checks.

"That's the difference between us and the Catholic Church. We admit our mistakes and do something about it," he said.

Well don't that beat all. I know there are plenty of Christ based church congregations that split, but I thought the satanists really had their act together!

I wonder what you have to do to get expelled from a Satanic Church. I bet he was listening to Amy Grant.
