Oklahoma City Rep. Plans To Reintroduce Red Flag Bill
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - Some Oklahoma lawmakers are speaking out on possible new gun laws being considered in Washington.

One idea is a federal red flag law which would allow a court to take a gun away from someone deemed a danger to themselves or others. Several states have adopted similar laws - but Oklahoma is not one of them.

Gov. Stitt Not Looking Into Red Flag Laws For Oklahoma

Last session, Oklahoma City Rep. Jason Dunnington says he helped co-sponsor a red flag bill here, but it was not heard in committee.

"I think that these recent reminders to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton has reminded us as a society we should be able to talk about gun violence," said Dunnington.

Dunnington says he will introduce the bill again next session if action is not already taken at the federal level.

I think it is appropriate - IF there is due process and there is a legal and solid determination of a problem. But a willy-nilly gun-snatching a few hours after someone's ex-g/f swore out a statement may not meet those criteria.

There're a LOT of factors that need to be taken into account for something like this.

It won’t be considered, that’s not the goal. It’s a stepping stone on the way to confiscation. I wish the political climate was different but it is not and it won’t get any better. The goal is to disarm the citizens, you will be left with revolvers and 2 round shotguns at best.

Now is a good time to point out that neither a red flag law nor a UBC would've stopped any of these mass murderers. It bears repeating, early and often.

Sounds to me like the guy in Dayton might have had some warning signs when he was younger, but the sealing of juvenile records would have negated that, if he'd even been reported/investigated - which it sounds like he wasn't.

It is not a stepping stone it IS gun confiscation, one person at a time!

Have to disagree. Several of the previous mass shootings have shown signs of violent mental issues before committing the shooting. The problem will be making a law that protects our rights while preventing dangerous people from getting them. It can not be based on a tip, it has to come from medical professionals testifying in a hearing.

Red flag is not confiscation, it is a stepping stone to full confiscation (red flag laws would take to long to disarm us all not to mention the time it would take after all the legal proceedings etc ) Full confiscation is exactly what they want they don’t even try to dance around it anymore. The only thing I would consider is enhanced background checks and I am barely on board with this

You tell me that when the DSA is back in power and they use every tech click to build a selfish ledger on you so they can prove what isn't even real. It IS not a stepping stone it is the wolf in sheep's clothing.
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."
Martin Niemöller

There ae definitive parallels here, you can ignore if you choose but it is what it is.
